Caddy Course Quiz

You are caddying for your junior golfer and his playing partner has no caddy, although his mom is walking along on the cart path watching. On a par 3 across the water, he calls over to his mom to ask what club she thinks he should hit. She suggests a nine iron. He thanks and her and grabs his 9 iron.

She's his mom, she can totally give advice whenever she wants to.

He doesn't have a caddy so can take advice from anywhere.

He is subject to a 2-stroke penalty for asking for advice from someone not his caddy.

There is a pitch mark, spike/cleat marks, and deer prints in your junior’s line on the green. He asks you to repair them before he putts. What can you repair before he attempts the putt?

You are caddying for your junior golfer who slices his ball into deep rough. You find it pretty quickly because you kick it by mistake. You call him over but don’t say how you found it. You leave it where it is because the lie is slightly better.

Your player didn't see what happened so he doesn't know any better.

Because you didn't replace the ball to its original spot your player incurs a 2 stroke penalty for playing from the wrong spot.

Accidents happen. No big deal.

4.

You are caddying for your junior golfer in a tournament where the greens are running super fast. He’s putting and asks for the flagstick to be removed. You lie the flagstick down on the edge of the green. The junior's putt is way too hard and hits the flagstick.

The juniors incurs a penalty regardless.

The junior incurs a 1 stroke penalty only if the flagstick is deliberately placed in the line of the ball's projected motion.

The junior incurs a 2 stroke penalty only if the flagstick is deliberately placed in the line of the ball's projected motion.

There is no penalty for a ball in motion hitting a caddie, equipment or flagstick regardless of location or intention.

5.

Your player chips onto the green. He picks up his ball after marking the lie. You take the ball and clean it and when it is your player’s turn to putt you put it back on the mark and he putts.

Your player will receive a 1 stroke penalty as he should have put the ball back as he was the one who picked it up.

It doesn't matter who replaces the ball as long as it is replaced correctly on the mark.

It is always your responsibility as a caddy to clean the ball and replace it back on the mark.

6.

Your junior golfer sees his playing partner hit his ball deep into the woods. He calls out to his playing partner who is heading towards the woods to locate his ball: You don’t really have a good shot out of there, probably a good idea to declare an unplayable!

That counts as giving advice and your junior will incur a 2-stroke penalty.

Golfers are entitled to say what they think on the golf course.

If he doesn't take the advice there was no harm, no foul.
