Returning the Scorecard

Lesson 10 Chapter 9

the junior golfer scoring table

At the end of a tournament, if you turn in a scorecard that is incorrect, e.g. an incorrect score has been entered for a hole, there are two possible outcomes.

  • If the returned score is higher than the actual score, the higher score stands.
  • If the returned score is lower than the actual score (or if no score is returned in time), the player is disqualified.

An exception to this rule is if the player’s hole score is lower than the actual score because they excluded a penalty stroke(s) they were not aware of before returning the score.

Additionally, you may be disqualified if:

  • If you do not enter a score for a hole.
  • You do not sign the scorecard.

Most tournaments (including PGA Tour) allow for a 15-minute window after leaving the scoring area for players to correct an error on their scorecard that might have previously resulted in disqualification.
